This sunrise beach session was everything that dreams are made of! The gorgeous sunshine, crashing waves, and white dress made for the perfect cohesive coastal feel.

As a Maternity Photographer in Charleston,SC I often get to style moms for their beach maternity sessions. I typically like to style in a way that is cohesive with the colors and movement often found at the beach. So when styling for this session we decided on this flowy white midi dress. You may think that you want your outfit to stand out against the backdrop, but in my opinion, I don’t want your outfit to stand out, I want YOU to stand out. So light neutrals are typically the way to go!

We also chose sunrise as opposed to sunset for these maternity photos. Sunset is gorgeous and will give you that soft warm glow. But sunrise creates soft light, with clean colors. Because this session took place in Charleston, we wanted these photos to have the light pastel colors that Charleston is know for.

The other special thing about this maternity session was that it was shot completely on 35 mm film! With intentional lighting film can create really fantastic soft, pastel colors. It can handle very high light situations, meaning you can get these really light and bright photos! I felt this was the perfect fit for the look we were trying to create with these pictures.

I am so pleased with what we were able to create with this session! By being intentional with location, lighting, and outfit choices, we were able to get the soft and dreamy beach photos that this client was looking for!
