5 Tips For The Stress Free Family Photos

Everyone knows family photos can be stressful! One thing I always talk about is what I will do for you to make family photos stress-free. But here are some things that you can do to help prepare yourself and your family for those yearly photos.

Avoid Preparedness?

Avoid over prepping your kids. Okay, I know this one sounds crazy but hear me out. Over prepping can build up the anticipation that the photos will not be enjoyable. But I want the opposite experience for my family photos. I want kids to feel comfortable so that they are able to play and be themselves!

Extra Clothes Are Always a Must

Bring your kid’s clothes with you and change into them when they arrive. This one is pretty straightforward, kids can be messy! You don’t want to stress yourself the whole drive over about making sure they stay clean. Reduce the stress and just bring the outfits with you!

Don’t Be Afraid To Get Some Help

Do yourself a favor and get some help with the getting ready process by scheduling professional hair and makeup! While this is definitely not a requirement, I have found this to be helpful for two reasons. One, trying to scramble to do your own hair and makeup while getting the kids ready can be stressful. You will typically put yourself last on the to-do list, and then find that you feel rushed. When in reality it should be the opposite! You are the priority and everyone else getting ready should come only after you are feeling your best. So having hair and makeup scheduled already into your day forces you to prioritize yourself in the getting ready process. Two, simply being that professional hair and makeup lasts longer. Meaning you can get it done earlier in the day and then have time to come home and help get the rest of the family ready, without having to worry!

Mom Comes First

Pick out your outfit first! Once again, as a mom, it is in your nature to worry about everyone else. So you will likely be tempted to help everyone get outfits together that they love and then try and find something of your own to match. Don’t do this! Instead, take the time to find the perfect dress. The one that makes you twirl around and smile from ear to ear. Then find neutral outfits for everyone else that complement your outfit choice.

Snacks Fix Everything

Finally my number one, go-to tip is to bring snacks and water! Hangry kids and parents rarely make for happy photos. Especially if kids are hot or even cold, add in being hungry or thirsty, and no one is happy. So definitely bring those snacks! There has rarely been an impending meltdown that wasn’t solved by some goldfish and a five-minute break!

I hope this was helpful and gives you some great tips to rock out your next family session! Remember that if you have any questions your photographer is always more than happy to help! The best thing you can do is follow their guidance and try to relax and enjoy!
